Bead Soup Blog Party SHOW TIME

Welcome to the BSBP  sep.  17    2011 and  Birgitta Lejonklou  up here in Sweden !

I must add summer is gone with the wind as we had frost for the first time outside this morning :(

My first creation with my partner Astrid´s lovely lampwork-beads is called   "The Emigrants Necklace".
I came across so many wonderful people in the bead world over there in US with ancestors up here in the north of Europe!  I think it was about 1000 000 people who left Sweden during those hard times when many starved....My necklace is a whisper to honor those brave women and men who left the only world they knew  with great hopes of a better future over there........

Below is a video with a song about this -and the world today-  it has been a favorite of mine for a veeeery long time..I hope You can take time to listen!! it is well worth it...

In this Emigrants necklace You can find the gorgeous FOCAL from Astrid (symbol of family) + accent bead to the side. On the opposite side   the letter they did write so many times to the people left behind....a vintage button with balance symbol yin - yang, a cross for the strong faith they did bring and a faceted chunky Garnet  for the strength../ white lampwork with silver for purity
and some more stones and vintage beads buttons..

just click on pictures to get a better and bigger wiew!

My second creation is a play with my muse who is very rebellious and not making the 3 strand bracelet or other things I decided to do....As we need to use the clasp....think it is not in the "rules"   HOW  :)
here is a pair of earrings with this pretty 3-strand clasp + super pretty seed beads and moon face from the soup and of course a pair of Astrid´s pretty lampwork beads
"Reflections in Moon River  Earrings"

This Sunday morning  18 sep.  I decided to make a pair of hoops with those pretty  blueberry quartz cubes I got in my soup ....this is how they turned out...

Yea right...!! the cubes had to small holes for my heated copper wire I was wrapping with so I had to change the idea....again...I dont know if I will keep those or find a better  use for the left over glorious lampwork bead from my soup ....there is a Swarovski  sparkling in the flower...

And now it is time yo hop around and see all the fantastic creations from all over the WORLD!!!!!!!

Thank You for visiting - And I would love if You leave a note about ancestors or just say Hi !!

TIME FOR YOU TO HOP ON.....list below..

I want to thank You all for the wonderful feedback and  comments to this post ......still coming in ..:)
I feel very humble and overwhelmed  !!
I am still hoping around as my brain can not take to much input in a day .......

A HUGE thank You to LORI and those who supported her in this great event !! (pink girl :) <3<3 )

  38. Fantastiska kreationer Birgitta!

    SvaraRadera
  40. I love everything about your necklace..the story behind it..the strength of the components..the gorgeous colours and the sentiment of the letter and video.
Your photography is great too...love the composition and framing..the fact that you can click to see close ups...how do you do that!! Love it all.

  41. I am so impressed with all of your creations with your soup - you have a real talent. This has got to be one of my favourite reveals I've seen so far!

    SvaraRadera
  42. That is a really beautiful necklace, and I love the thought process behind it! Wonderful!

    SvaraRadera
  43. All of the details in your pieces are gorgeous!

    SvaraRadera
  44. Snyggt halsband!

    SvaraRadera
  45. Birgitta, the necklace and earrings are gorgeous and I love the meaning of the necklace.
    Therese

    SvaraRadera
  46. so beautifull, all of your pieces are lovely. I really liked the tought you put into this & your story you shared. I did try to watch the video but there isn't any sound.

    SvaraRadera

Be Blessed to be a blessing

    SvaraRadera
  48. Beautiful work + lovely thoughts = extraordinary feast for the eyes.

    SvaraRadera
  49. What a wonderful story for your necklace. It reminds me that my ancestors came to wisconsin, usa in the 1880's from Poland. My great-grandfather came here and left his wife and younger children. settled a homestead, and sent for the rest of his family 5 years later. I have a copy of the boat roster when they landed. I now have the idea of using parts of the roster and "resining" to make a focal piece. I think my parents would like that.

    SvaraRadera
  50. I love the necklace! You had great ingredients to start with! The colors and textures are great!

    SvaraRadera
  51. Beautiful jewelry. I love the necklace with it's old world feel and wire wrapped note. Very cool.

I love the use of the netted fiber on the earrings!

    SvaraRadera
  53. I love a piece of jewellery with a story behind it!

    SvaraRadera
  54. You really touched an emotional note with me. I come from a very large family that is now dealing with a mother and father who have Alzheimers. My 13 year old just did a project for school on our ancestry. Its all very emotional for me. My husbands family lost many members in the holocaust. My ancestors were forced out of Russia during the pograms. There are so many pieces of our lives that will be lost. Thanks for putting your art out there and tying it to something with great meaning.

    SvaraRadera
  55. Gorgeous work! I love the asymmetry is everything. Fantastic!

    SvaraRadera
  56. Absolutely beautiful jewelry. Your "emigrant" piece is especially touching (and lovely!)

    SvaraRadera

    SvaraRadera
  59. What a beautiful tribute! I love the handwritten note and the beautiful colors.

I am a third generation American on my father's side, my great grandfather came from Germany before World War II, he didn't like what was happening and got a job playing trumpet on an ocean liner, then as soon as the ship pulled into NYC, he quit his job and went right to Ellis Island.

Your necklace made me think of him and how so many people from Europe took big risks and chances to find a new life in America and how brave they had to be.

    Beautiful work!

    SvaraRadera
  60. I love EVERYTHING about this piece, the history, the vintage components and the romance, LOVE IT!

    SvaraRadera
  61. Nice! The letter is a very cool addition to your necklace!

    SvaraRadera
