The ABS-Challenge February with a mix from all over the world

This months ABS-Challenge is very much about birds

With this necklace I am designer of the week on the ABS-blog

Thank You Heather !!:)

I have tried to follow the colors of the painting and one bird is in front

The Ceramic focal is made by me in porcelain clay

I added some faceted stone beads and some lampwork art beads and the birdie

In this closeup You can see the beautiful lampwork bead with silver from *Davina Design* in Italy

and the pretty polymer bird made by *Yelenacomau* in Australia

and the ABS blog is in USA ,

Silk is from India

and more beads from USA

and stones from China

and Painting is made in Iran

And I live in SWEDEN

this is a very international post :)

And I do love that this obsession ! with beads and design bring us all together from all over the globe !!

This fantastic lampwork flower is made by *ferrarioriginalbeads*

Necklace closes with a swivel clasp in the front and the dark shifting silk is the river flowing through the painting

I do make all kinds of jewelry

even if I prefer the more artful stile

but I made a more traditional necklace this week for a wedding

Sterling silver beads, Swarovski heart and huge pearls + smaller ones.

At the moment I have lots of ideas for jewelry and not so much time to make it..

Some cleaning to be done and baking and cocking before Christmas.....

need to get the decorations out of the closet too...:).....but here a few pictures with new stuff i made in the studio.....

A wrap-bracelet that actually looks very good as a necklace too

raw Kyanite, old glass, vintage button, paper-bead from a project in Africa and silk of corse

+ button with wing I made in ceramic ...

And a bangle I hammered in copper with Kyanite / green a very powerful healing stone

and some other goodies .......

and now..back to the kitchen to clean up after baking :)

It is time for a give away

actually I was planning to celebrate 10 000 visitors to my blog

but then suddenly it was 11 000....so it is time for sure for a GIVE AWAY !

and it is in time for Christmas too :)

But First I will show ya what I am working on at the moment..

A statement necklace with a pendant I made from porcelain clay and lots of gorgeous recycled glass beads and stones ...I have some work left on this one but will finish it of today I think with a clasp and some more dangles ..

AND as You can read in my comments I have more work with this necklace as the pendant was BROKE :( .....one of my cats probably responsible for that....

I think I may use this pendant instead??

This is another necklace is just finished with lots of fantastic old (more than 100 years ) glass beads with crackle effect, fossile and other goddies .....

All about SILK

The first necklace I made with silk is from 2005 and sold the same day I listed it in my Swedish webshop

I used Thai silk from a big piece that I tore apart, lampwork beads and super big freshwater pearls

This picture show another old silk necklace I made for my daughter Lina (2005 I think ) and she loved it so much that it has fell apart from use :) She also use one of my ooak earrings that I did sell a lot always only one as they were impossible to duplicate (lol) I had a lot of fun bending wire back then..

actually when Im to it I will show some more of those wire works :)

I also made my own polymer clay beads before my herniated discs put an end to that...(and now after the surgery I can again THANK GOD )

Back to the silk...so I do not get lost in all those old photos ..

My oldest girl Sara with a silk and stone necklace from 2009 I think ...when I found MarynotMartha on Etsy with those hand dyed lovely silk ribbons she made back then..

a bracelet with her ribbon and mixed beads.....still have some left of that gorgeous ribbon!

And finally I found the lovely sari silk ribbons that I do use a lot these days......a wrap-bracelet....a stretchy bracelet .......and a necklace that took some time to make..

I knew when I saw this guy i wanted to make one a bit long and cosey like a boa....round the neck

...

she did not get thaaaaaaaaat long but a bit like I wanted Im happy to say..

The glaze came out just perfect even if I did not expect that almost metallic style...

I have used one of my ceramic beads and 3 of Natalie Pappas lovely beads

sari silk and a pretty flower clasp + Czech glass leaves

I call this one a she as I think she is the mother to the rest of the guys that came out of my kiln

I did find some nice vintage rhinestone spacers and some new aswell....juuumm mm

unfortunately it is getting a bit dark those days and hard to get blingy pictures...but they doooo sparkle a lot

Im also very short of earrings in my shops so I better stock up a bit for the holidays

I am working on some stacking bracelets with vintage buttons, rhinestones and other goooddies but not finished yet....

I am just finishing up this necklace I have been working on for some days

my handmade leaf pendant with imperfection *smile*

a hand soldered chain ( It is fun to solder..... yea ) with long links and a big swirly clasp

A couple of gorgeous lampwork beads (nugget) JUMM from bluhealer on Etsy

I am afraid the light is not so good to show their beauty......dark outside today...YUUKK

and it was sooo dark on my bead-table that I moved the necklace and the cuff focal Im going to use for a matching bracelet...to a place with more light...flash is not so good to show those colors..

Welcome to the BSBP sep. 17 2011 and Birgitta Lejonklou up here in Sweden !

I must add summer is gone with the wind as we had frost for the first time outside this morning :(

My first creation with my partner Astrid´s lovely lampwork-beads is called "The Emigrants Necklace".
I came across so many wonderful people in the bead world over there in US with ancestors up here in the north of Europe! I think it was about 1000 000 people who left Sweden during those hard times when many starved....My necklace is a whisper to honor those brave women and men who left the only world they knew with great hopes of a better future over there........

Below is a video with a song about this -and the world today- it has been a favorite of mine for a veeeery long time..I hope You can take time to listen!! it is well worth it...

In this Emigrants necklace You can find the gorgeous FOCAL from Astrid (symbol of family) + accent bead to the side. On the opposite side the letter they did write so many times to the people left behind....a vintage button with balance symbol yin - yang, a cross for the strong faith they did bring and a faceted chunky Garnet for the strength../ white lampwork with silver for purity
and some more stones and vintage beads buttons..

My second creation is a play with my muse who is very rebellious and not making the 3 strand bracelet or other things I decided to do....As we need to use the clasp....think it is not in the "rules" HOW :)
here is a pair of earrings with this pretty 3-strand clasp + super pretty seed beads and moon face from the soup and of course a pair of Astrid´s pretty lampwork beads

This Sunday morning 18 sep. I decided to make a pair of hoops with those pretty blueberry quartz cubes I got in my soup ....this is how they turned out...

Yea right...!! the cubes had to small holes for my heated copper wire I was wrapping with so I had to change the idea....again...I dont know if I will keep those or find a better use for the left over glorious lampwork bead from my soup ....there is a Swarovski sparkling in the flower...

Actually I am very romantic in some ways

My favorite film or TV show ever is Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and all...I just love everything Jane Austen

And I spent lots and lots of time when growing up drawing pretty princesses with gorgeous dresses :)

On the other hand the rest of the time I spent doing lots of practical jokes and building tree-houses and using my fathers tools in the seller working space....

never played with dolls much..

When i left home and moved out into the world( to study) at 19 I brought with me lots of nice tools from my fathers stash.....some without permission ...hrmmmmmpf

He did not get mad at me..but gave me some more stuff including a nice electricdrill to make holes even in the strongest walls....

a necklace for a princess?

At the moment I am indulging myself in romantic stuff like laces, vintage buttons and pretty fabric to make some new lovely jewelry (hopefully)

Just have a look at those incredible hand crocheted laces made by the grandmother of a friend ...what a lot of work!!! are they not lovely!! (really vintage)

And some more in my closet ...

And how about that hammer ?? guess it is resting at the moment until next time I need it for some earrings or clasp making .........

( and I admit I like to watch "Dye hard" tooo sometimes) :~)

The love of ICONS

In my house there are lots of ICONS.

I am a bit of a collector and blessed with a friend who is a real icon painter. She makes them from scratch with wood and cover with some kind of fabric and use the ancient way building them and blending colors (egg-tempera) and gold

first pendant is mixed media with stone, script paper, laces and picture + resin cover..

and now I will start making some jewelry with this kind of pictures....

this one has e very ancient feel and is imperfect aswell :)

I did make a post about Icons last Year but I will show You some of them again

they give You a calm feeling to have around

my first icon and one of my favos It is VERY heavy on a thick piece of wood

another favorite and very unusual Jesus with WINGS

and below a painting of Maria I made in 2002 painted on wood with a nice crackle effect to look old - about 40 inches high

I fell in love with this necklace when I looked around in Cece Vineeta´s

aka The Beading Yoginis Flicker treasures

and sent out a question to her if it was for sale

She wanted a couple of my ceramic focals ......so two envelopes travelled over the Atlantic

I do admire this creative and artistic multi- media piece with so many skills shown....and love the micro-macrame work witch I can not do myself .......(I wish)

I do love those colors and was planning to making some jewelry for the challenge

When I looked through some pretty beads I got from my friend Janet McDonald of Singing Glass I got an idea for a playful pair of earrings ......and they turned out like this..

I have used Janet´s lampwork discs and beads + ancient small ceramic beads + some silk and my hand made wires

I am also very happy to have been featured as designer of the week at the ABS-blog with those :)

Well .....:) who would not get turned on by those beads I got in the mail from my partner Alice Boyce yesterday (You can read more about Alice in an earlier post)

just take a look at the fantastic play of colors in those lampwork beads she made for me!

and this pretty toggle with butterflies + African beads

and it is a challenge as well as it is GOLD :)

The spirit of IMPERFECTION

I think it all started at the Art summer schools I attended during my high school years. I was lucky that my town Jönköping had the teachers from Swedish Art School in Stockholm coming down for 5 weeks during summer to teach art in my High School building..and also I was happy to be accepted as their student !

The man in charge of drawing and painting classes talked a lot about how to build pictures and such and he said that " the perfect is un-interesting" If You see something perfect with the eyes the brain sort of "turnes of" or something like that ....at least the way I understood his words...and I think for me this is very true......
Why make a painting that looks like a photo??

Also if I look around me in the world it is full of US the perfect spirits created by GOD but still not so perfect in our striving to fulfill our purpose on this planet

and therefore I like when my ceramic show up imperfection and has a touch of vulnerability ...........they do not look like this because i can not make them different but because I like them this way.......

I had in mind to make this post for some weeks now and was going to have a picture of a beautiful necklace I made from a pendant with edges like those cuff-focals picked out by a lady in my studio (with hundreds to choose from).......... actually she choose the one with the biggest imperfection AND that made me think about creating this post.......but...
She came to pick it up earlier than expected so I have no picture ;

well....... i have to rearrange a bit in my studio and make some new displays on the wall etc...as there is an Artshow in my little town Mullsjö in the beginning of September

Then my studio will be open to the public for 2 days and a friend of mine who is a designer of clothes will also be here with her gorgeous knitted artwork...

So i feel I have to rearange a bit...

Just started cleaning .... looks like this ..now.....and Im pretty tired... my back hates shoveling stuff around aouuutch...

and of course I have some fun things on my bead table to rest at in between :)

just now working on some orders

I have to say

I never EVER saw roses in this village as early in the year as now !!

I think flowering all over is at least 2 weeks earlier than I ever experienced ?

jag har försökt massor av brännigar att få en av mina redoxglasyrer att bli turkos vilket den "skall" bli

Till slut lyckades jag på China lyxporslinslera att få den åt rätt håll i alla fall :)

Detta firade jag med att genast göra ett halsband i mumsiga färger / urläckra sidenband!

Finally I managed to get the Redox glaze that should be turquoise to get a color close to it anyhow..:) on China Porcelain clay -one of the most expensive ones...;

Dags att ta tag i den svenska hemsidan och min Designsida på Facebook som jag inte uppdaterat alls...hm

Kommer att lägga ut många nya smycken och även lite smyckesdelar i keramik mm

Även uppdatera hemsidan vad gäller mitt mediala arbeta med rådgivning och Rensningar av bostäder......vilket är något som kommer till mig mer och mer

Jag fastnar väldigt lätt i min keramikverkstad vilket inte är konstigt

Have been looking at this pretty button from Lisa Peters for a while now wanting to do something with it :)
added some nice faceted agate beads, lava, onyx and vintage lucite ....and a cross of course..

And here it is..picture taken on a book ( with leather cover) from 1725 .....
sold in Sweden now Monday so I will have to un-list it :) ..........actually I think I will make something similar as it sold at once ....

Today I did spend lots of hours at an estate in the countryside

some miles from where I live

I use to clean and help in distance mostly

but this is a very special and beautiful place

with many houses left from very old times 16-th century (1500 talet)

My head is still spinning from all different energies around and in the houses

and still there is a lot of work left to make the place more peaceful...

.....tonight I will try to ( with the help of my guardian angels) talk to some of the spirits I found there and see if they need help to rest in the light...

är en speciell sorts glasyr / ett mellanting mellan glasyr och angobe

som man kan lägga på både skröjbränd lera och rå lera

Fantastiskt spännade att testa och jag har hunnit köra 2 olika bränningar sen i måndags när jag fick dom olika färgerna (pulver) i små påsar 6 olika nyanser

Man kan även dra upp dom i olika temperaturer mellan 1050 och 1250 grader C för olika nyanser

lär ta ett tag att lära sig / den som skulle bli turkos blev mörkgrön med mini inslag av turkos tex...:)

men mina provbränningar har gett mig en hel del gosaker att använda i smyckena mm....

A special kind of glace ( from Germany) that can be used on raw clay as well as bisque fired and in a wide range of top temp / You can also dilute them heavily as 1/6 powder water!! still get nice colors ...

1922-2282 F / they work intimit with the clay and give a lot of different shiftings in diff. temp and clays..

Mostly they are silk-matte but they can also be shiny like the copper toned was when I fired it in a single firing ...some look a lot like leather and most of the testing even if not as I "expected" came out just fine :)

Many things to be grateful for:

5000 + visitors to my blog
my new love = the kiln
spring is here - all ice has melted from my driveway to the house :)

so I have choosen those 3 ceramic parts for the give-away - flower, heart and owl ..

OH.....well.... I have the most amazing new kiln with multiple programing opportunities / 5 scales....:)

And it is easy to handle

If You do what You think You are doing....

My first firing with the glaze I had top temp 1180 C (I thought ) but I had put in 1080 C instead.......so

I got some pretty stuff out of the kiln last night

but I choose to refire most of it to higher temp

as the porcelain also is not totally fired

I kept some pretties though :

And now the kiln is working again with a reload and some new stuff.......

On some I have only under-glaze .....hope they will be nice..

ÄNTLIGEN HÄR !! First firing testing testing :)

So i got the kiln thursday afternoon !
and right now it is up in about 500 C for test and start-firing
In about an hour its time to close the holes for fumes and air..
I have programmed 3 diff fire scales and one extra for this first firing
Tomorrow I will load with some porcelain with new glazes and see how they turn out in about 1180C
I hope there will be a smile on my face when opening :) up after that one!
I do love those bottled brush on glazes I did buy from USA
they are so nice to work with
just hope they look good when fired tooooooooo ...ooooh

It is supposted to leave Germany any time now and arrive at the end of this week or the next

I have prepared a lot of pendants and connectors to experiment ... :-o ! my new glaces on .....

It will be very very fun.... and maybe not so fun every time i open it after firing ....

Finally here :

The Day of the Biggest Bead Soup Blog Party EVER

and it will turn into a BOOK :) all in the hands of LORI ANDERSON

and 210 bead-lovers (addicts:-) all over the world YAAAYYYYYY (se map at the bottom of this post)

You can see all the beads I got from my partner Barbara ( who is very ill with high fever at the moment :( ! her post will be delayed -!in an earlier post (Thank You Barbara!)

I had a lots of pretty beads to work with and the amazing flowers made by Barbara

So ofcourse i wanted to use this gorgeous flower ....was more of a challenge than I thought :)

but it turned out a statement necklace for party dressing

I used lots of freshwater pearls and Czech glass here and my hand-antiqued brass chain

at the neck part the gorgeous hand dyed silk grunge ribbon i stocked up from Mary not Martha on Etsy

a bunch of flowers and crystal at the side here and a wonderful big wood bead from Barbara

Necklace is sold :)

next is a pair of brass party earrings with turquoise beads and crystals (I WILL MAKE BRACELETS ALSO BUT THEY ARE STILL IN MY HEAD ONLY)

hard to get good photos as it is dark outside this day...

actually Im not really in this BTW with posting on Flicker but It is a bit fun to do posts from the studio now and then..

BEAD-SOUP OPERA part 1

I was really overwhelmed when I got to the post office to collect the beads from my soup-partner Barbara

it was a huge package :))

When i got home I had to open it up at once.. of course.... and grabbed the camera on the way to the studio
Inside I found a big pretty bag (Im afraid I did not wrap my stuff that nice)

and inside that one a bunch of pretty smaller silver bags :)

First one was a present and I want to thank You !! Barbara for this gorgeous bracelet in some of my favorite colors!

in the next little bag i found a gorgeous flower *JUMMIE* I may keep that one for myself as a pin...

out of the next silver bag came two more pretty flowers that will sure be incorporated to my jewelry (gosh they would look good in this month ABS challenge :) )

to go with those colors Barbara sent a LOT of pretty beads in matching colors + toggle clasp, metal heart, bells, dougnut, pearls and more..... I love those big felted beads I think she made herself.... and pretty wood beads, faceted jade I think and other stones...

and one more silver bag with beads in other earthy colors (jade, jasper ...) and a bunch of charms...

Thank You Barbara I am very happy with all those beautiful things and my head start spinning with ideas

This necklace is very hard to take pictures that do it justice, also today it is very dark.. The focal stalactite slice is gorgeous with the shimmering crystal and jade rose is very pretty..... have not decided where to list it yet ....

jupp ...those are GLACES for my ceramic / porcelain in small nice bottles ( hard to find in Sweden) diff types

crackles, stoneware and renaissance glaces in pretty colors that i hope to be able to use soon ( have to talk myself into a kiln first )

For the love of India spices :)

I really do love them and as I am educated to Ayurvedic Health Adviser (1997-98 ) I use some of those in my kitchen for providing good health.........

Also the new research in health /medicine shows those spices have anti- inflamatory effects and are very good to eat..

Anyhow Yesterday I got a bunch of sari silk non dyed that I did not try before and they did turn me on a lot!!

so this morning i started on this necklace that is still not really finished..

I did have some problems trying to add a dichroic glass cab to the brass key ....tried gloves.. and tweezers...but the glue stayed in the wrong places....S.....h...i..

Well at last I got one in place with my bare fingertips....not the one that had my favorite color but still a pretty one...
